Multi Use Radio Service

MURS uses narrowband FM with maximum effective radiated power of 2.0 watt, and a maximum deviation of +/- 2.5 KHz.
MURS is good for short-range local communications of about 10 to 15 miles and no license is required.
MURS base antenna height is limited to 20 feet above a structure or 60 feet above ground.

  • Note that MURS is used by public service agencies, police, fire, ems, etc in some areas for routine non-critical communications.
